What is one of Premier Homes’ biggest strengths? Structural is our strong point. We know when you’re talking about live load, dead load, deflection ... how to do it, what you should do, what you shouldn’t do. How is Ellingsworth Commons, the development located off I-265, coming along? It’s going good. Roads are in. We’re building. Electric and gas is coming along just fine. We’re wrapping up some of the finer stuff. Ellingsworth Commons is a community designed so you will know who your neighbor is, you’ll know your neighbor’s name. You’ll go out into the common parts. It’s the way neighborhoods used to be. … People send all their time on their phones. We need personal interaction with one another today. That’s the whole idea. When I build a development, it’s not just about the money. It’s how I make money, don’t get me wrong, but – for instance – I could have taken the 3-acre lake (at Ellingsworth Commons) and made more lots. We wanted something different, something that benefited people. What do you enjoy the most about your job? I wasn’t going to Prosser thinking I was going to be the biggest builder in town, by no means. I enjoy what I do. I look at what I do as a service to the community. That’s rewarding. When you’re not working, how do you spend your time? I’ve raised one son and three daughters in Southern Indiana, I’m family oriented (Corbett has three grandkids, two on the way and one great-grandchild). I’m a University of Louisville fan. I go on trips and cruises. Biophilia Life; or, My Best Friend Has Four Legs and a Tail DECEMBER 14, 2018 - FEBRUARY 9, 2019 Timothy Callaghan, This Protector detail Remembered: The Life of Lucy Higgs Nichols CONTINUING EXHIBITION In terms of growth and economic development, where would you like to see Southern Indiana in 10 years? I’ve always said you have the advantages of the big city here ... but the more and more people come, the more and more it becomes Louisville. It will never get there because of the Knobs. I’d think there’s some advantages for it to grow, but I’d also like to see it maintain our close-knit community. Who or what motivates you? For the longest time, it was always my children. ... It’s still about them and taking care of them, I’ve done everything right for them. … But now I also want to leave a mark, to some degree. What habits or routines have helped with your success? My habit is my biggest weakness and biggest strength. I get very focused on something. When I’m doing something, I’m very focused and I go at it. Ordinary People, Extraordinary Courage: Men and Women of the Underground Railroad CONTINUING EXHIBITION What pushes you through your most difficult times? It’s how you think about it. If I could jump up and down and solve problems, I would do it. But since I can’t, you just solve the problem. .... Solve that problem before it’s a problem. What are you most proud of professionally? I’m proud of the business I created. 201 E Spring St, New Albany | CarnegieCenter.org
