THIS IS AN ADVERTORIAL Community Foundation of Southern Indiana Turning Unrestricted Gifts into Impact THANKS TO THE COMMUNITY FOUNDATION OF SOUTHERN INDIANA’S COMMUNITY NEEDS ASSESSMENT, AND THE GENEROUS DONORS WHO HAVE ENTRUSTED US TO STEWARD THEIR GIFTS, OUR GRANTMAKING IS EVOLVING AND ADDRESSING THE GREATEST NEEDS OF OUR COMMUNITY. THE EXAMPLES BELOW ILLUSTRATE JUST A FEW OF THE GRANTS WE’VE MADE TO IMPACT OUR REGION. Ohio River Greenway: CFSI’s grant supported Phase II of the Greenway’s Wayfinding Plan which included the fabrication and installation of 46 wayfinding signs. The wayfinding signage allows motorists, bicyclists, and pedestrians to navigate the Greenway Corridor and find key destinations. The significant impact of this grant is on our region’s health, well- being and overall connectivity. The Ohio River Greenway, an integral spoke in the growing web of public trails connecting communities on both sides of the Ohio River, binds our communities together. Align Southern Indiana: CFSI has made a multi-year commitment to support the work of Align Southern Indiana (ASI). ASI is an umbrella organization working to facilitate a shared regional process that will align ourresources, address our needs and produce sustainable solutions which will help our region become the be the best place to live, work and play. ASI is focusing on five areas of focus including Economic & Talent Development, Education, Regional Leadership, Quality of Life and Quality of Place. Currently, ASI has two active teams working in the areas of 1) Kindergarten Readiness (Education: Ensuring every student is kindergarten ready) and 2) Addiction Prevention (Quality of Life: We will be a drug-free region). As the program grows, more teams will be added, aligning the right resources at the right time, working together to achieve agreed-upon community goals. New Roots Fresh Stop Market: New Roots works with food insecure communities to create sustainable systems for accessing farm-fresh, local food. Their purpose is to unite communities to spread food justice through an income-based sliding scale farmers market. Their model makes it possible for everyone, regardless of income level, to purchase top quality, local, organic produce. New Roots operates 18 markets and strategically places them right in the heart of the communities who are struggling the most, including markets in Jeffersonville and New Albany. To date, the Foundation has invested $30,000 in the New Roots Fresh Stop Markets to make them available to communities in Clark and Floyd Coun- ties. It is estimated that this program has served over 1500 people since establishing the first Southern Indiana Fresh Stop Market in summer 2016. Homeless Coalition of Southern Indiana: The Homeless Coalition of Southern Indiana was awarded $80,000 from the Community Foundation of Southern Indiana to streamline entry into services for those homeless or those at-risk of homelessness. The project, titled Coordination of Services, will take place over a two-year period and will help the Homeless Coalition streamline efforts so the needs of people in the community are identified and then referred to the appropriate service providers. The grant will align services during the intake process to help get individuals and families back on their feet sooner and with more opportunities. EXTOL : FEBRUARY/MARCH 2019 15
